I help industrial teams make data from machines, lines, and plants usable – from sensors and PLCs up to Edge, Realtime Analytics, MES and cloud platforms.

This page explains the core consulting services I offer, how I typically work, and the industries and use cases where I am usually a good fit.

If you already have a specific project or plant in mind, you can use this as a checklist to see whether it matches my expertise and preferred way of working.

Who this is for: industrial companies, OEMs and system integrators who need a clear, realistic IIoT roadmap rather than another generic slide deck.

We start from your current assets, constraints and business priorities, then define a focused IIoT strategy that can actually be executed on your shop floor.

  • Clarify target business outcomes (OEE, availability, traceability, energy, service models).
  • Assess current architecture from field devices to SCADA, MES and cloud.
  • Identify feasible use cases and sequence them into a practical roadmap.
  • Define target data flows, responsibilities and integration points.
  • Highlight key technical decisions and risks early, before implementation.

Who this is for: plants and OEMs that need reliable, maintainable data acquisition from PLCs and field devices and SCADA systems, historians and analysis tools.

I help you choose and design architectures that balance performance, robustness and cost, while avoiding brittle point-to-point integrations.

  • Design or review Data Acquisition and historian architectures for new and existing plants.
  • Integrate legacy PLCs and fieldbuses into modern data stacks.
  • Define tag naming conventions, data models and aggregation rules.
  • Address buffering, store-and-forward and high-frequency logging needs.
  • Plan for scalability, security and lifecycle management from day one.

Who this is for: teams deploying or reworking field gateways, protocol converters and edge applications at scale.

I focus on architectures and patterns that keep your connectivity layer observable, secure and maintainable – not a black box in each cabinet.

  • Design and review of edge gateway architectures and deployment models.
  • Protocol bridging and data normalization (EtherCAT, Profinet, Ethenet/IP, OPC UA, MQTT and others).
  • Secure remote access approaches that work for operations and IT.
  • Edge application patterns (aggregation, local KPIs, buffering, anomaly detection, and others).
  • Monitoring, updates and lifecycle management of distributed edge nodes.

Who this is for: plants with significant legacy equipment that need better visibility and data without risky, big-bang replacements.

I help you turn brownfield constraints into a realistic modernization path, combining targeted upgrades with smart data integration.

  • Assessment of current lines, automation layers and data availability.
  • Identification of low-risk, high-impact modernization opportunities.
  • Incremental integration of legacy machines into a unified data layer.
  • Pilot design and rollout plans that minimize downtime and disruption.
  • Cross-functional alignment between operations, OT, IT and vendors.

Who this is for: teams that already have projects in motion and want an experienced industrial IIoT engineer to review decisions, reduce risk and coach internal staff.

Typical formats range from one-off technical reviews to recurring advisory sessions embedded in your project cadence.

  • Architecture and code reviews for data acquisition, edge and IIoT platforms.
  • Design reviews for new lines, machines or modernization projects.
  • Coaching sessions for internal engineers on patterns, trade-offs and tools.
  • Second opinion on vendor proposals, sizing and solution options.
  • Preparation support for internal milestones and decision meetings.

I usually work in three main modes, which can also be combined within a longer collaboration:

  • Short diagnostics and reviews: time-boxed assessments of architectures, lines or proposals, with written findings and recommendations.
  • Project-based work: involvement during design and implementation phases of specific projects, often alongside your internal team and integrators.
  • Advisory retainers: ongoing support with a fixed number of hours per month for reviews, questions and sparring on decisions.

If you recognize your situation in these descriptions, the next step is usually a short introduction call. Please use the contact page to briefly describe your context, goals and timelines.

I work in a vendor-neutral way: I do not resell hardware or software and I am not tied to a specific platform. This lets us choose the right combination of technologies for your constraints and team.

In practice, I am comfortable working with common PLC families, fieldbuses and industrial protocols such as OPC UA, Modbus and MQTT, and with typical SCADA, historian and IIoT platforms used in manufacturing and process industries.

The focus is always on clear architectures, clean interfaces and operational robustness, so that your internal team can own and evolve the solution over time.
